Written Assessments

Written Assessments

Written assessments are often part of another form of assessment, or they can stand on their own. Written assessments can be short answer, but are typically essay in nature.  This type of assessment requires a strong understanding of the subject in order to answer completely.

Strengths

A written assessment will usually demonstrate the level of knowledge a student has in a particular subject area by how specific and precise they are when they are writing a response.  Details help to convey comprehension to the instructor.  The proper use of key terms will also support understanding and knowledge of the question that was asked.

Weaknesses

Students must be able to communicate well in a written format.

Role of Technology

The ability to have a word processing program would be a great benefit for both the student and instructor.
